Opening Hours

On this page you will find all the information necessary to plan and easily book a visit to one of the most famous monuments in the world.

The Colosseum is open every day and has the following opening time: 

• 08.30 am- 4.30 pm: until February 15
• 08.30 am- 5.00 pm: from February 16 to March 15
• 08.30 am - 5.30 pm: from March 16 to last Saturday of March
• 08.30 am - 7.15 pm: from the last Sunday of March to August 31
• 08.30 am - 7.00 pm: from September 1 to September 30
• 08.30 am - 6.30 pm: from October 1 to last Saturday of October 

In general the Colosseum is open from 9.00 am to one hour before sunset.

You can access the monument until one hour before closing.

Festivity

The monument is closed on December 25, January 1, May 1.
It is open on December 24 and 31.

Important to know

The Colosseum is accessible from the South side in correspondence of the minor axis of the amphitheater, along Via dei Fori imperiali. The entrances are equipped with ramps. To access the first order of arches on the ground floor just overcome the turnstiles.

The elevators to access the second order (the first floor) can only be used by people with disabilities, pregnant women and over 65 people.

The use of the lifts must be requested at the cashier at the moment of the ticket issue.

Who has booked or pre-purchased the ticket online on the website can request to use the lift at the moment of the withdrawal of the booked or pre-purchased ticket, at the appropriate cashier.

• The ticket for people that can use the lift will be printed separately.
• Both entrances are adapted for the passage of disabled persons.
• There are also available two wheelchairs for those who request it.
• The according to law toilets are located on the south side of the Colosseum.

Security measures

Because of recent events and for maximum protection of the citizen new security measures have been arranged.

Those who have booked the ticket online must arrive at the cashier at least half an hour before the time of the visit.

For the same reasons it is forbidden to introduce inside the monument camping backpacks, large bags and suitcases/trolleys. Will be allowed instead medium and small size backpacks after the metal detector control and the supervision of the surveillance institution staff at the entrance turnstiles. 

The Colosseum can accommodate up to 3.000 people at the same time. This could create significant delays in access to it, also for booked visitors.
